Jo has extensive experience across all aspects of employment law. Her seventeen year career has included private practice in boutique employment law firms, in-house in a national employment law team in the UK, and managing a team of lawyers at the Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA). In 2014 she established her own practice and in 2016 the partnership of Douglas Erickson was formed.

As an employment lawyer Jo commonly appears in the MBIE mediation service, the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court, representing and advocating for her clients.

Known for her timely, pragmatic and strategic advice, Jo is primarily an advisor to employers. Jo advises businesses and other organisations on compliance and best practice in employment law, procedural fairness and dispute resolution. When providing options and advice to her clients, she understands the commercial realities facing business. She is empathetic to the needs of all involved in a dispute .
Jo also provides strategic and pragmatic advice for employees facing change.

Whether assisting corporate managers, business owners or employees, Jo is passionate about helping people achieve their preferred outcomes in their day-to-day working lives.

Prior to forming Douglas Erickson with Jo in 2016, Daniel was a Partner in another specialist employment law firm for over five years.

Daniel has a reputation for providing pragmatic, timely and easy to understand advice. Clients appreciate his helpful, straightforward and concise approach to employment law problem-solving.

Daniel assists employers in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, freight and logistics and retail. He enjoys working collaboratively with his clients, gaining a thorough understanding of them and their business. Daniel has also assisted a number of senior executives and CEOs in negotiating the commencement or the ending of their employment.

Daniel regularly appears on behalf of his clients in the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court. He also frequently represents clients at mediation.

Daniel also has expertise in health and safety. He assists clients in relation to complying with their legal obligations under health and safety legislation. He also works with clients following health and safety incidents, during WorkSafe New Zealand investigations and has appeared in the District Court in relation to health and safety prosecutions.

Helen has been practising law for almost fifteen years.  Prior to joining Douglas Erickson, Helen worked for a public and employment law firm in New Zealand. She has previously worked as a government lawyer in the UK, and in private practice at the Bar in London.

Helen has extensive court and litigation experience.  Over the course of her career, Helen has advised and assisted individual clients regarding their regulatory compliance with various government departments in New Zealand, including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Helen advised and represented government ministers and departments in the UK, including: the Ministry of Justice; Her Majesty’s Prison Service; and the Parole Board. She has also advised clients in respect of health and safety compliance.

Tanzam joined Douglas Erickson in July 2017 shortly after completing her Professional Legal Studies Course.

She brings with her a broad range of employment law experience including personal grievance claims, disciplinary and performance concerns and restructuring having previously worked as a law advocate and clerk. She has also represented clients at mediation and appeared in the Employment Relations Authority.

Tanzam is a highly motivated and pragmatic individual who is focused on achieving the best results for clients and will assist the Partners in providing timely and solution-focused advice.
